What is Halitube?

Halitube is a staple organization and platform in the Asian community of Halifax and Nova Scotia.

The Halitube mission is to foster goodwill and connections between the Nova Scotian and Asian communities. By creating an online community and YouTube channel, we have supported the local Asian community and helped Nova Scotia businesses in the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors. We have also hosted live events. The aim is to minimize  language and cultural barriers between the local and Asian communities and create business opportunities.

The story of Halitube.

How We Started

Halitube was founded in 2017 by Asian entrepreneur Will Yang who arrived in Halifax in 2015 to study at Dalhousie University.  As a newcomer to Nova Scotia, he recognized that Asian students and immigrants were experiencing a certain degree of isolation from the local community due to language and cultural barriers.

He also recognized a rich business opportunity and began producing a video series on a multi-media platform to bridge the gap. This introduced Asians to local businesses and culture and created a new market for local businesses.

Over the years, Halitube has evolved to help both communities.

Why We Act

Early on in the pandemic, we noticed an uptick in anti-Asian racism in Nova Scotia and Canada. This hurt us. We knew the COVID-19 was not our fault. We wanted to do something to support our Asian community and show local people who we really were. Our Halitube community was the perfect tool to connect the two communities on a human level.
